LP 1971: ‘TEASER AND THE FIRECAT’ (Cat Stevens)

El 1 de octubre de 1971 se publicó en el sello Island Records el quinto álbum del británico Cat Stevens. Aunque la mayoría de los críticos consideran su álbum anterior una obra superior a éste, fue ‘Teaser and the firecat’ el que caló más hondo en su público con temas como ‘Moonshadow’, ‘Morning has broken’ (basado en un himno religioso con piano interpretado por Rick Wakeman), ‘Rubylove’ en el que hace honor a sus raíces griegas y ‘Peace train’, su primer top10 en USA. El álbum fue nº2 en las listas americanas y británicas y es el trabajo de estudio más vendido de Cat Stevens. 

LP 1982: ‘THE NIGHTFLY’ (Donald Fagen)

El 1 de octubre de 1982 se publicó en el sello Warner Bros. el álbum debut en solitario de Donald Fagen, ‘The Nightfly’, para muchos su mejor obra. Producido por Gary Katz, fue uno de los primeros discos que se grabaron con técnica digital. Tanto Katz como el ingeniero Roger Nichols habían trabajado antes con Fagen en los siete álbumes de Steely Dan. El músico contó en su primer trabajo sin su hasta entonces socio inseparable Walter Becker, con la colaboración de un total de 31 músicos habituales en sesiones de Steely Dan, entre ellos Michael y Randy Brecker, Rick Derringer, Steve Jordan, Larry Carlton y Marcus Miller. El resultado fue una producción redonda alabada por los críticos y considerado uno de los diez discos mejor grabados de la historia del pop. Muchos técnicos de sonido han usado el álbum para probar la respuesta y ecualización de los equipos de sonorización en los directos. Los ocho temas que conformaban el vinilo original eran en su mayoría autobiográficos y versaban sobre los años adolescentes del músico en Nueva Jersey.  © 2011-2024 efemérides musicales
