LP 1970: ‘NEW MORNING’ (Bob Dylan)

El 21 de octubre de 1970 se publicó el undécimo álbum de Bob Dylan titulado ‘New Morning’, un álbum que parecía anunciar la vuelta del genio tras los decepcionantes ‘Selfportrait’ y ‘Nashville Skyline’. Aunque la mayoría de las canciones de ‘New Morning’ procedían de sesiones anteriores a los dos citados, se trataba de composiciones nuevas y bajo la dirección de Al Kooper, los músicos que participaron en el álbum mostraron un afán de experimentar con nuevos sonidos, ausente desde ‘Blonde on Blonde’. Dylan cambia la guitarra por el piano y ofrece una docena de canciones cuyas letras giran alrededor de temas como el adiós a los años jóvenes (’One more weekend’, ‘Sign on the window’), vivencias personales y canciones autobiográficas (’New morning’, ‘Day of the locusts’, ‘Went to see the gypsy’), baladas destinadas a Sara (‘The man in me’, ‘If not for you’) y cuestiones religiosas (’Three angels’ y Father of night’) que comenzaban a asomar con fuerza entre los principales intereses de Dylan. ‘If dogs run free’ es una pieza de jazz-blues que se salía del tono general del disco, en la que la cantante Maeretha Stewart improvisaba sobre la letra y el músico se preguntaba porqué no somos tan libres como los perros vagabundos. Solo se editó un single del álbum con el tema ‘If not for you’ que Dylan llegó a ensayar con George Harrison en los conciertos de Bangla Desh aunque no lo tocaron en directo. Harrison incluiría una versión en su triple álbum ‘All Things Must Pass’. ‘New Morning’ fue nº1 en las listas británicas, mientras que en Estados Unidos no pasó del puesto 7.  © 2011-2024 efemérides musicales
